Discover how innovations are supporting football at the FIFA Museum in Zurich’s new special exhibition “Innovation in Action”
The FIFA Museum is excited to announce its upcoming special exhibition, Innovation in Action: Football Technologies on and off the Pitch, opening to the public on 1 October. Developed in collaboration with the FIFA Innovation team and other FIFA departments, the exhibition explores how innovation has shaped football, enhancing how the game is played, officiated, experienced, and understood.
Innovation in Action offers visitors a deep dive into the evolving ecosystem of football technologies, from early equipment and communications systems to cutting-edge digital tools and data analytics. The exhibition demonstrates the goal of innovation to preserve the game’s integrity while supporting player skill, ensuring fairer officiating and deepening the connection for fans.
Organised around five core sections, the special exhibition explores how technology shapes the way football is played, analysed, officiated, staged and imagined for the future:
Broadcasting and media:
Trace football’s global reach through the evolution of film and broadcasting, from early radio coverage to today’s multi-platform, high-definition spectacles.
Intelligent data:
Discover how real-time analytics and performance-tracking systems provide coaches, players and associations with insights, helping to refine tactics, prevent injuries, personalise training and engage fans in new ways.
Refereeing and fair play:
Explore how technologies such as VAR, goal-line systems and referee communication tools are improving the accuracy and transparency of refereeing decisions.
Staging the game:
Go behind the scenes to learn how technology prepares the pitch, supports matchday set-ups and helps create a seamless experience for players and fans.
Innovation Lab:
Step into a space where imagination meets experimentation and ideas move from concept to reality, inviting visitors to share their own vision for how the game could evolve.
Innovation in Action combines informative content with engaging experiences and features a wide range of objects, media displays and interactive content that connect visitors directly to football’s technological transformation. From wearable sensors and high-speed cameras to immersive audiovisuals and data-driven storytelling, the exhibition bridges football’s past, present and future.
“Our newest special exhibition captures how deeply technology is woven into modern football. Not to replace the magic of the game, but to enhance every aspect of it,” says Marco Fazzone, Managing Director of the FIFA Museum. “With this exhibition, we want to give visitors an exciting behind-the-scenes look at the tools and ideas that are shaping the beautiful game today and tomorrow. I would like to express my gratitude to all FIFA departments involved for the close collaboration to create this exhibition together.”
The exhibition opens on 1 October at the FIFA Museum in Zurich. Entry is included with a regular museum ticket.
