The Launch of Innovation at the FIFA Museum in Zurich

Our new special exhibition Innovation in Action: Football Technologies on and off the Pitch kicked off on Tuesday with a very successful launch party, featuring a fascinating panel discussion between Arsene Wenger (FIFA Chief of Global Football Development), Johannes Holzmüller (FIFA Director of Innovation), and our Senior Football Expert Pascal Zuberbühler.

Before the accomplished trio took to the stage, FIFA Museum Managing Director Marco Fazzone officially welcomed the guests to the exhibition, giving insight into the collaboration, challenges and passion that went into the project. He emphasised how the collection of objects, immersive experiences and communication of complex technologies would not have been possible without the considerable help and support of many FIFA departments - especially the Innovations team who have been at the heart of the exhibition’s development.

After the welcome the panel took over and delved into the role of innovation in the modern game, discussing the range of its impact, the challenges of its implementation and the potential for its development. Key to the conversation was the origin of any new FIFA innovation, which always stems from identifying a problem that needs a solution.

The core ambition of Innovation in Action is to communicate how closely technology is woven into the very fibre of our game; it works alongside players, referees and fans to strengthen the game that brings us all together. Its advancement continually aims to enhance skill, ensure fairness, and enrich experience - contributing to the emotion and human influence of the game rather than replacing it.
